The Journey : A Road Map to the Soul

Be prepared for breakthrough
I bought this book two days before I took the Journey seminar in Los Angeles on May 17 & 18, 2003. I loved the book; it was an easy read about a deep subject - getting in touch with who you really are - could sound like new age woo-woo to some but let me tell you this is the most cutting edge healing and freeing process available that I have found. I've taken tons of seminars and have been a healer myself for many years but this is a gift of astronomic proportions. If you are ready for it, the freedom you have been seeking is here. In my opinion - and it's only my opinion based on my actual experience - it is the most important work being done for individuals in pain on the planet at this time.

Very simple highly effective process
The book is very valuable to me. The book is to the point and very clear. A very simple and highly effective personal liberation process.

Finally a way to connect with and HEAL yourself FULLY
There should be no question that you can't be healed. Wheter it is physical or emotional. THis book will give you the confirmation and if you still doubt, try a journey and you will experience it yourself. It is very clearly written and it is a book that gives you the way on HOW to do it yourself (with a partner). Try it and Experience it. Once you feel it you will not only do it more often, for you will feel so liberated, but you would want to share it with everybody you know! Thank you brandon!

Mel Bay's Complete Irish Fiddle Player
Published in Paperback by Mel Bay Publications (November, 1998)
Authors: Peter Cooper and Pete Cooper
Average review score:

TEN Stars
Mr. Cooper has done what so few have done in teaching us to play fiddle. He has progressively placed each tune from simple to moderately complex, beginning to end, through the book. But the best of this book is the (optional) two CD version which has him starting at a very easy pace for beginners. Toward the end of CD #2 he is playing at a faster but still followable pace for the student to grasp. Most accompanying CDs are an "Ain't I great?" show of the author's abilities. Instead, Peter Cooper puts away his ego and steps you through how to perform a finger a roll or a slur the Irish way.

I love this book. It gave me the ability to join in at many local sessions with confidence.

Excellent Intro to Irish Fiddle...Covers All the Essentials!
This is an excellent intro to Irish fiddling, especially for total beginners to Irish Music. Pete Cooper's lesson plans methodically and skillfully walk you from the very beginning concepts of bowing through to the more advanced forms of ornamentation that are so critical to the "irish" style.

Newbies like me are eager not only to learn the basics, but also to learn great tunes that are likely to come up during the Irish music sessions at the local pub, and all of the tunes Cooper uses in his lessons are core tunes that are session favorites. So when you've walked through his lessons, you're also ready to play a more than a few of the tunes that are likely to be played at a session.

Cooper does an excellent job explaining how to play jigs, reels, hornpipes, slides, mazurkas and polkas, each with their distinctive irish "feel". He also includes an excellent discography...suggested CDs for further study of tunes and playing style.

As an Irish tin whistle player, I can say that Cooper's book for the fiddle does a better job of conveying the basics of irish music than anything else I've seen, including numerous tutorials for other instruments such as tin whistle, and in fact its even helped me improve my style on the tin whistle.

I wish I knew how to get the CD that supposedly accompanies this book. The only other possible "down side" is that he assumes you know how to read music and how to play the notes on your violin...he's showing you how to play it Irish, so if you are a total and complete beginner to the violin you'll need a basic violin book too.

From Classical Violinist to Irish Fiddler
My hat's off to Peter Cooper! This book is masterfully organized for the experienced player or the novice - starting with the simple tunes to the more complex.

As an experienced classical violinist, I've found this book (and CD) perfect to explain the different nuances between Irish fiddling and classical technique. Just a few quick pages of reading and you're off and running for hours of fulfilling Irish tunes!

And whether you're the type that likes a little background on the origin of the tunes or the theory of modal Irish music, it's all there! This is a must-have for all aspiring Irish fiddlers!

The Monterey Bay Shoreline Guide (University California Press/Monterey Bay Aquarium Series in Marine conservaTion)

PERFECT FOR EXPLORING MONTEREY BAY
I thought I knew the Monterey region fairly well until I was given this book as a present! It is packed with great "bites" of information: natural history, human history, and how to get to all the beaches and parks. The writing is easy to understand, friendly in a way, and even fun. The maps are very helpful, and the book even has resource sections with phone numbers, website urls, and directions. AND, the photographs are stunning. A great gift for visitors, home libraries, or the glove compartment of your car.

The definative guide of the Monterey
I received this book as a gift and was immediately taken by the depth and breadth of this book. If you are traveling from Ano Nuevo to Monterey get this book! The author and photograper bring this spectacular shoreline alive with great descriptive copy and super photos(you've got to see page 136). Hidden beaches and other great spots that I would never have known existed. Great information about how to get there, what to do and how it got there. Get the family together, pack a lunch and bring this book. Guaranteed great day!

A reader from Davenport, California
I have lived in Santa Cruz County for 15 years and thought I knew the Monterey Bay coastal zone very well--that is, until I read Jerry Emory's Monterey Bay Shoreline Guide. This Guide is the best--it covers both familiar territory and less well-known aspects of the Monterey Bay and its coastal towns. I've found myself consulting it whenever I make any kind of shoreline jaunt, from discovering where one can walk one's dog on a beach in Carmel to locating the best on-shore whalewatching sites. The photos are beautiful as well as informative. The organization of the book, which includes sidebar articles on specific topics, lends itself to easy access for both the casual and serious reader.

A Penny for Your Thoughts
Published in Hardcover by Thorndike Press (November, 2003)

It made me carsick and my husband complained...
I started reading "Pennies" on a plane trip to Bermuda. I couldn't put it down.I tried to continue to read it during the extremely curvy taxi ride to our hotel. I picked it up again, after aspirins and a nap, and my husband complained that we were there for our 25th anniversary and not for a reading marathon!

When we got back, I lent it to my mother. She complained to me, too. She couldn't put it down, either. She read it in one day, didn't get anything else done, and didn't go to sleep until she finished it. She was tired and cranky the next morning.

We both thought it was fabulous and well worth the pain.
Thanks to Mindy and Callie and friends for a wonderful book!
(We can't wait to read about the rest of Callie's adventures).

Excellent!
This book is a page turner as well as unpredictable. The characters are well developed. Can't wait to read the next one!

Puzzling and fascinating
With this debut novel, Mindy Starns Clark creates a memorable and unique sleuth: Callie Webber, agent of a philanthropic organization (remember "The Millionaire"?). Callie's mission is to investigate non-profit organizations to assure they are legitimate and deserving of the rich guy's grants, which can be darned generous. In this installment, however, she's just supposed to drop off a check and leave--until the recipient drops dead practically before her eyes. Even jaded mystery readers will be wondering which of the many suspects is the killer--and more importantly, why. A fast-moving, puzzling, fascinating read. Word is, there are more Callie Webber books on the way, and that is good news for anyone interested in a good mystery.

Secret Justice : A Novel
Published in Hardcover by William Morrow (27 May, 2003)
Author: James W. Huston
Average review score:

Super Read - scary premise
This is such an appalling, yet possible plot! One hates to think this could really happen...Great characters and the sub-plots weave together very well. Action packed - fast read! RTG's in Russia? - I certainly believe that! This could take terrorism to a new high - Huston does a lot of research and knows his subject matter. I have read all of his books and this is best yet! RAT is a super character - thought Skyles was too!

Keep'em coming Jim!

Ann Williams

Great Read
This book had it all. Great action, great courtroom drama. Great characters that you love (and lawyers and liberal sympathizers that you despise). This is Hustons best book yet. My only gripe is the choice of weapons for the main characters.

Rat Returns
In Secret Justice, the best yet of James W. Huston's highly-readable techno-military thrillers, Lieutenant "Rat" Rathman returns for the capture the world's most dangerous terrorist. As with Huston's other novels, this one is fast-paced and intertwines several compelling plot lines. The courtroom trial scenes, a trademark of Huston's novels, are remarkably believable and appropriately tense, perhaps the result of Huston's own substantial experience as a trial lawyer. Huston's diligence in research is also well-reflected in his description of the risks associated with terrorist access to the large number of aging, portable nuclear powered generators which are still to be found in the former Soviet Union. The danger that nuclear "dirty bombs" could actually be made from these sources is a major and troubling theme of Secret Justice. Rat's return to action makes Secret Justice a worthy addition to the Huston library.

The Ice Bowl: The Cold Truth About Football's Most Unforgettable Game
Published in Hardcover by McBooks Press (September, 1997)
Authors: Ed Gruver and Vernon Biever
Average review score:

The Real Deal
The year 1997 marked the thirtieth anniversary of the 1967 NFL Championship game between the Packers and the Cowboys. Two book were published around that time. One was by Mike Shropshire and the other was by Ed Gruver. Of the two books, Gruver's is superior. It looks briefly at the coaches, the organizations, the seasons, and then devotes the lion's share of the book to the actual game. Especially helpful were the diagrams of key plays that occurred during the game. The book devotes a chapter to each quarter. In addition to the players and coaches, the author looks at the game from sportscasters and referees. The author also covers issues that Shropshire ignored. For example: was Jerry Kramer offsides on the winning TD and did Donny Anderson score on the previous play. The author also does a good job on covering the discussion of possible plays that could be called on the final play. The Shropshire book was not bad, but this one wins hands down.

EXCELLENT RECAP
THIS BOOK IS TRULY A GREAT READ. THE INTERVIEWS, PHOTOGRAPHS, AND RESEARCH IS REALLY EXCELLENT. THIS IS BOOK REALLY BRINGS BACK SOME MEMORIES. I WAS ACTUALLY COLD JUST THINKING ABOUT THE HARSH CONDITIONS OF THAT DAY OF SURVIVAL. WELL DESCRIBED AND A GREAT WAY TO LEARN ABOUT THIS LEGENDARY GAME. HATS OFF TO MR GRUVER, AND ALL ASSOCIATED WITH THIS MASTERPIECE.

The Essence of Football
A wonderful book. Ed Gruver recaps this game with thirty years of perspective, and he does it right. It's well written, with comprehensive background information and game detail. The appendix has all the pertinent statistics you could want, including a play-by-play compilation.

Gruver is not biased toward the Packers. He pays richly deserved respect to the Cowboy players and coaches. The Cowboys were a "warm weather" team that might have been expected to fold their tent when faced with the severe cold, but, like the Packers, they gave everything they had on that day.

I don't see much to criticize in this book. Maybe Phil Bengtson's family would like to have seen his name spelled correctly. I'd prefer to see more discussion of the historical significance of the game, but Gruver probably thinks of himself as a reporter and not as a historian.

Not being bound by such modesty, I'll do it for him.

The greatest games in modern NFL history are:

(5) 1998 Bronco-Packer Super Bowl. (4) 1982 49er-Cowboy NFC Title Game. (3) 1969 Jet-Colt Super Bowl. (2) 1958 Giant-Colt NFL Title Game. (1) The Ice Bowl.

An epic game should have three qualities: it should effectively decide a championship, it should be historically significant (usually by signifying a changing of the guard or a change in the way the game is played), and the game action should be unforgettable. The Ice Bowl combines these qualities better than any other game.

It marked an end to the dominance of the "old" NFL and provided a glimpse of the complex offensive and defensive schemes to come. It matched two of the five greatest coaches in NFL history. No game was more dramatic; the cold weather and frozen field gave it a sense of primeval struggle. I feel that the title "Greatest Game Ever" as applied to the '58 Championship Game has been inflated by the well-known power of eastern media. The Ice Bowl deserves that title.

Mel Bay's Complete Traditional Holiday Season Fake Book (Mel Bay's Complete Series)

Great Harmonizations
The many new singing english translations are exceptional, A great addition to the Christmas repetoire.

{Just the right jingle}
I often play for multi-ethnic groups, this book enables me to taylor- make each performance. It contains music not only from almost every European country, but some unusual gems from South America, China, the Philippines and Japan.

Mel Bay's Complete Traditional Holiday Season Fake Book
The Christmas and Holiday songs in this book include those that we would all like to play but that most of us are unable to. This "fake" book provides a system whereby ordinary people who love this music but who have not had the musical training that they might wish they had, can play them too. The sound of these arrangements is unusually lush and authentic for arrangements of this kind. The book also contains pieces less commonly included in popular books of this kind, such as the hauntingly beautful Huron Carol, well known to Canadians such as myself but possibly less well known in other countries. Even if this were the only piece in this book, it would be well worth purchasing. In fact it contains a large selection of holiday songs.

The New Complete Chesapeake Bay Retriever

A must have for Chessies owners to be
I have read all the books written about Chesapeake Bay retrievers. This was the best written book that I had read. It gave precise information about the breed, its personalitly, care etc. There was no gobbly gob information given. After reading this book. I made a final decision and now own a Chessie. Its a must read for anyone who is thinking about owning a Chessie.

A 'Must-Have' For Bay Shoppers
When I was in the market for a medium to large sized sporting dog, I began to research dogs such as the Chesapeake Bay retriever and of course the Golden and Yellow retriever. My search led me closer to the Bay retriever because of 2 reasons: athletic ability and intelligence.

Upon closer scrutiny I soon discover from 'The New Complete Chesapeake Bay Retriever' that indead this was the superior choice over all other retrievers. The book explains that the Bay retiever is less popular than other retrievers simply because not many people have heard of this American breed. And as a benefit, over breeding has not occured with the Bay retriever. Hunters prefer the Bay over other bird dogs due to their undistracted committment to retrieve. As a family dog, they are gentle and stoic enough never to over react or bark in any situation

The book was a terrific guide for shopping for a pup and especially for raising and field training the dog as a hunter or as champion show dog.

My dog is a family pet and I owe plenty to this book for guiding me logically with the raising, training and breeding of my dog.

I discovered later that my dog's ancestry is mentioned in the book. His grandparents are previous champs and are showcased through out 'The New Complete Chesapeake Bay Retriever'.

'The New Complete Chesapeake Bay Retriever' is thorough, logical and very acurate with selecting, raising, and training the Chesapeake Bay Retriever.

The Latest "Encycopedia" for Chesapeake Bay Retrievers
This book has wonderful information on the history, breed standards, and the hidden advantages of owning a Chesapeake Bay Dog. I have owned (or been owned by) a Chesapeake for 4 years now, and this book was nice to fill in the gaps of information that most people do not know about. I can tell that Janet Horn has a true understanding of the breed, an understanding that only comes from owning and being in the company of such wonderful dogs. I appreciate her geneology research for this work. Her passion for the breed is what makes this book such a joy to read. This book does not cover training tactics and is not meant to do so. Please take great care in researching training methods for Chesapeakes, as many methods (used on Labradors and Goldens) are not productive on these dogs.

Voyage of the Exiles (Land of the Far Horizons, No 1)
Published in Paperback by Bethany House (January, 1995)
Author: Patricia Hickman

Start to a Promising Series
This book is not a typical Christian romance. It's much better. The characters aren't thrown into improbably sappy situations, in fact, it's quite the opposite. These characters are flawed, abused, and not destined for your typical fairy tale ending. People get sick, die, have to live down doing bad things, and don't necessarily end up with the first romantic pairing they are put in. This isn't normal for a Christian romance and it's refreshing to find a book that is historically realistic and still very readable.

I wait with great interest to see how things go now that the storyline has finally reached Australia.

Best Series EVER!
I loved the whole series, but book one is my favorite. Even if you're not big on the whole religion aspect, this book is an amazing mix of adventure, heartache, family values, and has great historical aspect. I love historical fiction, and I have read a lot of it, but this book was one of the prime examples of the Australian-Penile-colonies .
I got totally caught up in the entire storyline, and I was unable to put the book down, and once I finished it, I read the rest of the series, then I read the whole series all over again. The characters are so well developed, and it's as if they were real people, living a real life, not like other books where everyone seems so fake, and the situations they get involved in are so fanciful and everything is just perfect. The author keeps things real, and shows you how like would have really been.
It's a great book that I recommend for everyone to read.

Exciting Novel
This book was terrific. I could hardly put it down. I felt like I was right on the ship with the rest of the transportees.
I liked the book so much I went out and bought the rest of the series. A friend's daughter is now reading them and is really enjoying them too.
